a few weeks ago, Sarah SharpFounder of community cat clubwas informed about a mother cat’s plea for help for a newborn kitten that was ‘not cared for’.
Sarah contacted her family and offered to keep the baby and cure her mother of her illness if she really wasn’t breastfeeding. When her family decided to extradite them, Sarah was surprised to learn that her mother was a sphinx.
“You don’t see that very often,” Sarah told Love Meow. “As soon as I brought her home, I realized that Zaida (cat) loved her baby very much.
Zaida was taken to a veterinarian the next day to make sure she was in good health. A second surprise struck while they were examining the mother.
With another kitten in the womb, Zaida had to undergo an emergency caesarean section immediately.
After a successful surgery, Zaida was reunited with her two kittens in a warm, comfortable nest. “We are so happy that we were able to rescue her mother and have this treatment. Without it she would not have survived.”
Despite not being able to breastfeed yet, Zaida continued her dedication to her babies Zana and Zia, keeping them clean, warm and loved.
It was teamwork for Sarah and Zaida to share the responsibilities of being moms while co-parenting the kittens.
“I bottle fed my two kittens the entire time while they were taking care of everything else,” Sarah told Love Meow. “While she was breastfeeding, she would often sit on my lap and hang out, checking on the baby and wanting attention.”
At one week of age, the kitten’s eyes began to open. “They were healthy and heavy and my mom was crazy about them.”
Around that time, two orphaned kittens arrived to the rescue in need of around-the-clock care. Sarah took them in and put them in an incubator because they were too young to regulate their temperature. She said, “They were only a few days older than Zaida’s baby.”
As soon as Zaida learned of the new kitten’s existence, her ears were ringing and she began looking for it. After a period of quarantine to ensure the kittens’ health, Zaida was able to see them and decided to sneak into their nursery.
Without hesitation, she climbed into the incubator and began caring for the baby. “She almost had me give them to her.”
New kittens Hermes and Hera have joined Zaida and her two nests. They soon snuggled up to each other in the crowd.
Zaida poured out her unconditional love on her four dear ones. As the kittens grew, they learned to walk, wrestle, and explore, keeping their mother on alert.
The kittens have reached many milestones in just a few weeks and are now eating from their plates like champs. They’re jumping around the room, pouncing on each other, and doing all sorts of antics, making them very hilarious.
“Zaida loves her babies so much that she has adopted two more kittens.
But as soon as the kitten realizes it needs a bath or cuddle, it will run over.
Now, Zaida has spent enough time with another foster kitten named Lupine and enjoys sharing blankets with her companions while feeling cozy and loved.
