The stray cat was waiting on the road, but when the door opened it jumped into an Uber as if ready to be taken off the road.

Last month, while visiting the Bronx area, an Uber driver came across a black and white cat lying alone in the middle of the road.

Drivers who volunteer for local animal conservation efforts, Little Wanderers NYC, could not leave without checking the stray. The cat sat on the road and barely moved until the car door opened.

“She opened the cab door and a tuxedo flew in,” Little Wanderers New York City told Love Meow. “He got into her Uber without a carrier and was waiting for her rescue.”

The cat jumped onto the dashboard and sat behind the wheel, as if expecting a ride to safety. The driver was surprised that the cat was hitchhiking, but he was happy to help.

While petting the cat, she noticed some scars, probably from fights and discharge from her eyes. A cat named Tux was very friendly and willing to let her rescuer scratch her chin.

He was taken to a veterinarian for an examination, and was estimated to be about two years old. “Tax is a scruffy tomcat with an eye infection and battle scars that proves a tough life on the streets, but otherwise good.”

Rescue teams quickly arranged a foster home for this adorable cat. Tux quickly got used to living indoors and she felt right at home.

They cleaned and treated his eyes so he could see better and start healing. They gave him a comfy cat bed and he instantly liked it.

More than anything, Tux just wanted to be close to people, competing for their attention and blending into their arms.

“He’s a big eater and an even bigger cuddle bug. He’s so affectionate that even if he scratches his big head, you’ll always want to be around him,” Tux’s adoptive mother, Dana, said.

Tux arrived food insecure because he was a stray dog. He worried about whether he would be able to eat the next meal and tended to eat the food too quickly.

“He’s still learning some of the nuances of being a house cat by using the litter box and slowing down his eating.”

With reassurance from her foster family, Tux learned to relax and enjoy her meal at mealtimes. He appreciates the people who have a roof and are with him.

Tux is doted on by his pet and is delighted when he cuddle up. He loves the softness he is given and curls up snuggly in his cat bed when he naps.

“He can’t wait to go home forever, and I can’t wait to help him get there.”

Tuxedo sat on the road, waiting for the right person to show up. Now I no longer have to worry about food or where to live, and I am ready to find my own place.
