Happy 1st birthday to Fern and Juniper!
Juniper and Fern (Ferniper) discover cake together! |
Woodland Park Zoo’s naughty and charismatic brown bear cub (famously known as Felniper) turns one on January 31st.
The zoo has children’s favorite apples, cantaloupe, carrots, honeydew, pears, oranges, romaine, watermelons, yams, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, corn, and even some tropical plants such as papaya and mango. .
The cub is estimated to have been born in January 2022. Both cubs were rescued from their original habitat. Juniper is a coastal brown bear that lives in Anchorage, Alaska. Fern is a grizzly bear from Montana. They were too young to support themselves. A cub learns all about bear life directly from its mother, including hunting, foraging, and other survival skills.

Kittens are getting bigger day by day. Junipers are noticeably larger than ferns, currently weighing 280 pounds while ferns weigh 218 pounds.
The kids were introduced to each other last November. “Since then, Juniper and Fern have been the best buds. They spend most of their time wrestling, playing together, napping next to each other. ,” said Tina Mallett, animal control manager at Woodland Park Zoo.

Juniper is known for its goofy personality, and the zoo’s bear keeper said he is a comedian. She is often seen holding a stick or root ball in her mouth. She is loud and loud with her presence. Fern is considered more of a thinker and she is quite self-assured.
The 1-year-old can be seen on the zoo’s Living Northwest Trail, along with three new Canadian lynx (Marty, Monty and Yukon), along with the new Kathy Herzig Base Camp Northwest, which showcases Pond turtles, and the Turtle Trail. Available daily at the Head Start Center.
The brown bear is an iconic species, and the juniper and fern are symbols of hope for a recovery of the North Cascades grizzly bear. If you would like to learn more about bear cub and grizzly bear recovery, please visit: www.zoo.org/brownbear.
