Today we are happy to share a special “Guest Panda Update” from Dr. Sam about Lun Lun’s latest eye treatment. Read below for more information.
“We have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with giant pandas for almost 25 years. Over the years, we have learned a lot about veterinary care of giant pandas. We are located in Chengdu, China. We continue to work closely with our panda base friends and colleagues to share knowledge based on mutual experience.LunLun has been at the Atlanta Zoo since 1999 and is now in her prime at the age of 25. Giant Pandas are no different than many other animals we love in that they (like humans) need to be closely monitored for medical conditions that may develop as they age. Recently, Lunlun has developed some eye problems.Like many other elderly animals, giant pandas are prone to developing eye degenerative diseases. Our hospital is currently providing ophthalmology services such as cataracts, glaucoma, and corneal diseases. We are treating the disease with Lunlun.Lunlun is responding well to the treatment and seems to be stable and comfortable. We are working closely with our colleagues at the Panda Base in China to find out what is possible for pandas. We strive to provide the best possible care.”
