On Sunday, our beloved Houston Zoo family member and Vice President of Conservation and Education Peter Liger passed away after a year-long battle with cancer.
When Peter joined the Houston Zoo in 2004, we were just beginning to deepen our commitment to wildlife conservation. He was a cornerstone of our global effort to save wildlife, and his contributions to our zoos, the entire zoo and aquarium community, and animals in the wild are immeasurable. Simply put, it’s because of him that we have the Houston Zoo.
Anyone who knows Peter has experienced his wonderful sense of humor, kindness and deep kindness. It was he who pursued the goal of conservation with his brilliance and keen insight.
