Houston Zoo is proud to partner Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC) To save Namibia’s endangered black rhinoceros. Poaching remains one of the biggest threats to rhinos, and the IRDNC’s Psi Ranger Program, with 17 rangers working in his six reserves in Namibia, works to monitor and protect these amazing animals. I’m in.
With the support of the Houston Zoo, we provide food for psy rangers during anti-poaching patrols, equip rangers with high-quality uniforms including sturdy hiking boots, and provide tents and nightwear for several nights of patrol in the African forests. We supply camping equipment such as, and equip rangers. It is equipped with state-of-the-art rhino monitoring tools such as digital zoom cameras, GPS units and binoculars.
Every time you visit a zoo to see a southern white rhino, you are helping to save the world’s rhinos. A portion of each zoo’s membership and admission fees goes to support zoo partners around the world, such as IRDNC. We are proud to provide rhino rangers with the tools they need to protect not only rhinos, but other animals in the area such as lions, elephants, giraffes and zebras from harm.
In 2022, IRDNC’s 17 Rhino Rangers set a record number of patrol days and miles. As a result, there have been no incidents of rhino poaching within IRDNC patrol areas in the last three years.
IRDNC and the Houston Zoo are working together to save rhinos in the wild.
