Dr. Robert Moore, former dean of San Jose State University, is often referred to by family and friends as the “Dog Whisperer” because of his undying love for dogs.
Allison Moore, the daughter of Dr. Robert Moore, told NBC Bay Area’s show that she expects to see 20 to 30 dogs. Instead, about 200 dogs and their owners turned up to celebrate their father’s birthday.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes gathered and dressed for the occasion. Some wore tuxedos, cowboy hats, and dresses. Some arrived in style in classic cars.
And, as his “Dog Whisperer” nickname suggests, Dr. Moore could pet every dog that came and name every dog breed that came.
Alison Moore said her father was very happy with the celebration. “It’s hard to describe how special it was. He really felt the love on his birthday.” Moore said. “They were mostly strangers. It was really special.”
Dr. Moore’s other daughter, Vicky Mallon, said: “This is probably the biggest thing that has happened to our family and the one that gives us the most joy.”
Many guests, even if they didn’t know Dr. Moore personally, brought gifts for 100-year-old dog lovers. There were also cupcakes, flowers, balloons, posters and paintings!
The Moore family said they were undoubtedly blown away by how the community came together to make their father’s centenary celebrations unforgettable.
