About two months ago, a scrawny cat showed up outside the Good Samaritan’s garden and needed rescue. After years of living on the streets, his body weakened and deteriorated.
Directed by Lisa Winters Little Wanderers NYC, upon learning of his plight, immediately agreed to take him. with assistance from Saint Spiro Cat Rescue and EddieThe volunteers brought a cat named Kai to safety.
Kai was in very bad shape and was immediately rushed to the vet. Eddie offered to look after him so that he could recuperate comfortably in a loving home.
The cat was anemic and had a severe upper respiratory tract infection. With lots of TLC support from Little Wanderers New York City and Eddie, Kai was nursed back to his health, gained a few pounds and his beautiful personality shined through too.
As soon as he felt better, he began seeking affection from people, greeting them with a gentle head bump and snuggling whenever he got the chance.
Kai demanded affection by poking his opponent or standing on his toes. After braving the outdoors for so long, he always sought companionship to make up for his lost time.
When Alison learned Kai needed long-term foster care, she and her partner couldn’t say no to their sweet son.
“We lost our first boy cat, Howard, in January. His sister Nugget was really sad and depressed,” Allison said.
“I wasn’t ready for a while, but when I saw Kai’s story and saw how much he needed a foster home, he really touched me. I decided to give it a chance.”
Shortly after arriving, Alison met a sweet and gentle cat who just wanted to be doted on. He was so grateful and instantly fell in love with his new family.
“He fit right in, like he’s always been here. He completely came into our home and took over our hearts and lives, including his new sister Nugget. ”
When Kai was introduced to Nugget, he was so enraptured, as if he had found the companion he had been waiting for. He curled up next to her and wrapped his arms around her.
“He gets along really well with his brothers. He’s always looking for her and giving her a bath.”
Kai has rediscovered his inner kitten and loves playing with toys and cat pranks, but most of all he loves his family.
He stops in the middle of the play and gives people his love.
“He comes over and kisses. He brings the joy to our home that has been lacking since we lost Howard.”
It didn’t take long for the family to realize Kai had already gone home. “We really couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to cats and families.”
“We are honored to give him a safe place to spend the rest of his life without having to worry about whether he is loved or where his next meal will come from.
“He will be part of this family forever.”
