K-9 Officer Finn is a highly trained 3-year-old Labrador Retriever and the agency’s first comfort dog.

In a statement on Facebook, the NHPD said Finn said: “This is a valuable addition to the department and helps support the mental health and well-being of our officers.”

His handler, Constable Patricia Lambe, Wilbur Cross High School’s School Resources Officer, also trained at the Forever in My Heart Foundation for several months.
“I fell in love with him, and now he’s like my baby.” Constable Lambe said: Fox 61.
The New Haven Register reports that Finn will provide comfort not only to police officers but also to the surrounding community, according to people familiar with the matter.
Finn will be tasked with boosting officer morale and supporting officers working in high-stress environments. He also plans to help Wilbur Cross community members suffering from trauma-related disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.
Lambe said: “I know he can perform some commands if he’s wearing a vest, and they’re meant to provide comfort. Lying on top, he’s a peekaboo to sit on, just when he gets between your legs and looks up at you.”
NHPD Director Carl Jacobson told Fox 61: “We’ve seen dogs across the state make a huge impact on the health and safety of our officers and the health and safety of our communities, and we’re really excited.”
FOX 61 reports that K-9 officer Finn will spend the summer at a Police Action Federation camp in New Haven. He and his handler Lambe will be working at Wilbur Cross in the fall.
