Glendale police said officers responded to a call that a German shepherd was swimming in a canal with no escape.

When police arrived on the scene, they saw a tired dog pacing up and down the canal. And during the rescue, the dog refused to approach police officers.

This dog was capricious, so the police had to come up with a unique plan. And one of the police officers asked, “Do you have any food?” To his fellow officers, the other officer, Officer Downey, had the perfect “tool” to help in the rescue.

“Here, try this. It’s my wife’s pumpkin muffin.” Officer Downey said as he approached another officer, Officer Sorensen, who was trying to get the dog.

According to the Glendale Police Department, Officer Downey’s pumpkin muffins were served in place of the freshly baked muffins his wife packed for her patrol duty.

The police department described pumpkin muffins as follows: “All this little dog needs is a bribe.”

“Constable Sorensen was able to approach the dog with a muffin as a tool, grabbing it by the collar and pulling it out of the canal.” Glendale Police wrote.

Near the end of the bodycam video, an uninjured German shepherd is shown reuniting with his owner. While I hear Officer Downey joking, “All I can say is that I wasted my wife’s muffins.”
