With this in mind, Nold says the following foods are okay for dogs to eat in small amounts from time to time.

• Turkey – lean, light meat with no seasonings or sauces.
• Pumpkin – canned plain (no butter or seasonings) or cooked pumpkin
• Potatoes – cooked, plain (mashed or diced without butter or seasoning)
• Yam – cooked, plain
• Rice – cooked white rice
• Green beans – plain canned, frozen, cooked, raw (trimmed)
• Corn – always off the cob, plain canned, frozen, cooked or raw
• Marshmallows – Plain, unbaked, unsweetened (may contain xylitol).

In addition to providing your pet with only small amounts of plain items off the “safe” list, here are seven holiday foods you should never give your dog.

• Garlic, chives, onions, and leeks (including most fillings)
• Raisins, currants, grapes
• cranberry sauce
• Fatty or dark turkey meat

• Chocolates, cookies and candies (sweet treats for humans)

Whether or not you give your puppy treats this season, be mindful of holiday dishes and leftovers in general.
